Every year, retailers lose billions from returned goods that go unsold, most of which end up in landfills.

The Challenge

Consumers crave sustainable options but lack access to verified, affordable fashion.

Retailers want to recover value without damaging their brand.

The Oportunity

ReShop connects both worlds.

Problem Statement

“How might we help retailers recover value from returned goods while enabling consumers to shop sustainably, confidently and securely?”

Pain Points

  • 30% of online fashion purchases are returned.

  • Retailers often throw away or liquidate dead stock.

  • No trusted resale system exists for near-new items.

  • Consumers want authenticity, not guessing games.

Methodology

Methods:

  • 10 retailer interviews

  • 20 consumer surveys

  • Competitive analysis of Depop, ThredUp, Reflaunt, Trove

Findings:

Retailers

  • Lack digital resale pipeline.

  • Need brand-safe resale solutions.

Consumers

  • 78% would buy “verified returns.”

  • 65% prefer eco-conscious deals over new fast fashion.
